2016 is Here, and so are NEW HIPAA Requirements

The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) has been advised to strengthen its HIPAA enforcement efforts in 2016. Because of this, HHS is launching audits to gauge compliance with privacy provisions of HIPAA. According to HHS, OCR cannot identify covered entities that are non-compliant without fully implementing the audit program.

The audit program will continue to use both desk reviews of policies as well as on-site inspections. It should target specific common areas of non-compliance and will include audits of business associates. If you are a covered entity, you must be proactive.
