Enabling Encryption on Galaxy Tab E

Beginning on September 3rd, 2019, CenturyLink will begin showing warnings when accessing their apps from a non-encrypted Android device. After September 17th, 2019, CenturyLink apps will stop working on non-encrypted Android devices.

As a result of this policy, you will need to enable Encryption on the tablet issued to you by Mercury Z. This document provides a walkthrough that you can follow to enable encryption on your tablet.

Before You Begin

Before the encryption process can begin, your tablet will need to be charged to at least 80%, and it will need to be connected to the charger. The encryption process itself will take anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of hours depending on how much data you have stored on your tablet. We recommend beginning the encryption process at the end of your workday so that there is enough time for the process to finish before the start of your next shift.

Enabling Encryption

  1. After your tablet is charged to 80% and connected to the charger, unlock the tablet and open the Apps drawer by sliding up from the bottom of the screen

  2. Select the “Settings” app from the list to open it

  3. Select the “Lock screen and se…” option from the menu on the left

  4. Select the Encrypt device option from the menu on the right

  5. Tap the ENCRYPT DEVICE button near the bottom right of the screen

  6. DO NOT select the Fast encryption option on the CONFIRM ENCRYPTION page. Begin the encryption process by tapping the ENCRYPT DEVICE button again.
